Which MOZA Wheel Base Should You Choose?

The MOZA direct drive wheel base range gives you a clear progression from the R9 V3 at 9Nm through to the R25 Ultra at 25Nm. Choosing the right model comes down to the amount of torque and force-feedback headroom you want, the strength of your cockpit and your budget.

More torque doesn’t automatically mean better force feedback or faster lap times. A higher-torque wheel base gives you a wider range of forces and additional headroom, allowing stronger feedback to be reproduced without continually operating the motor near its maximum output.

MOZA R9 V3 – 9Nm is an excellent starting point for racers who want a capable direct drive wheel base without immediately moving into higher-torque hardware. Its 9Nm output provides strong force feedback while remaining a practical choice for a wide range of home sim racing setups.

MOZA R12 V2 – 12Nm provides a step up from the R9 V3, with additional torque and force-feedback headroom. It is particularly attractive to enthusiast racers looking for a balance between performance, size and cost.

MOZA R16 Ultra – 16Nm bridges the gap between the R12 V2 and MOZA’s 20Nm+ wheel bases. Its 16Nm output makes it a strong choice for experienced racers who want substantially more headroom without stepping directly to the R21 Ultra or R25 Ultra. The R16 Ultra also introduces MOZA’s newer high-density flat-wire motor architecture alongside a 21-bit magnetic encoder.

MOZA R21 Ultra – 21Nm moves into high-torque direct drive territory and is aimed at experienced sim racers with rigid cockpits who want considerably stronger steering forces and additional torque headroom.

MOZA R25 Ultra – 25Nm sits at the top of the current MOZA wheel base range. It is designed for demanding high-end simulator setups and racers looking for MOZA’s highest level of direct drive performance and torque headroom.

MOZA R9 V3 vs R12 V2 vs R16 Ultra

For many enthusiast sim racers, the most relevant decision will be between the R9 V3, R12 V2 and R16 Ultra.

The R9 V3 provides 9Nm and is the most accessible of the three. It offers enough force-feedback strength for many sim racers without requiring the investment or cockpit demands of the higher-torque models.

The R12 V2 increases output to 12Nm, providing additional headroom for racers who prefer stronger feedback or want more room to adjust their settings as their simulator develops.

The R16 Ultra takes the next step to 16Nm and is particularly attractive if you want a higher-torque system but don’t need the 21Nm or 25Nm output of MOZA’s flagship bases.

The choice isn’t simply about buying the highest number. If you prefer moderate force-feedback settings, the R9 V3 or R12 V2 may provide everything you need. If you want considerably greater headroom or use larger and heavier steering wheels, the R16 Ultra becomes increasingly attractive.

MOZA R16 Ultra vs R21 Ultra vs R25 Ultra

The R16 Ultra, R21 Ultra and R25 Ultra cover MOZA’s higher-torque direct drive options.

At 16Nm, the R16 Ultra provides a substantial level of force-feedback headroom while sitting below the forces generated by the R21 Ultra and R25 Ultra.

The R21 Ultra increases output to 21Nm and is better suited to experienced drivers deliberately looking for high-torque force feedback.

The R25 Ultra increases this again to 25Nm and sits at the top of the range for demanding simulator builds where maximum torque headroom is a priority.

All three should be paired with a suitably rigid sim racing cockpit capable of handling their available torque.

MOZA Steering Wheel Compatibility

MOZA’s current steering wheels are compatible across the current MOZA direct drive wheel base range, so you can choose your wheel based on your preferred racing discipline, size and features rather than having to match a specific steering wheel to a specific MOZA wheel base.

This includes Formula and GT-style wheels such as the KS, KS Pro, FSR2 and GS V2P, as well as larger and round options including the CS V2P, CS Pro and RS V2.

MOZA’s quick-release system also makes it practical to own several steering wheels and swap between them on the same wheel base — for example, using a KS Pro for Formula and prototype racing before changing to a CS Pro for rally, drifting or road cars.

Build a Complete MOZA Sim Racing Setup

A MOZA wheel base can form the centre of a much wider MOZA sim racing ecosystem.

Alongside its direct drive bases, MOZA offers steering wheels, pedals, shifters, handbrakes, dashboards and other accessories that can be combined into a complete setup.

If you’re starting from scratch, our MOZA Racing bundles combine wheel bases with compatible steering wheels, with many bundles also giving you the option to add MOZA pedals at a discounted bundle price.

MOZA Pit House Software

MOZA wheel bases are configured through MOZA Pit House, allowing you to adjust force-feedback strength, steering behaviour, damping and other wheel-base settings.

Profiles can be configured around different cars and simulations, allowing you to tailor the behaviour of the wheel base rather than relying on one force-feedback setup for every type of racing.

Yes. MOZA wheel bases can be used on Xbox when paired with the MOZA ESX Steering Wheel, which provides the required Xbox compatibility. This means you can choose the MOZA wheel base that suits the level of force feedback you want and pair it with the ESX wheel for an Xbox-compatible MOZA setup.

Not currently. MOZA’s current direct drive wheel bases do not yet support PlayStation 5, but official PlayStation compatibility is coming to the MOZA ecosystem. If you’re specifically building a PS5 sim racing setup, check the latest MOZA compatibility information before ordering.

Yes. Because current MOZA steering wheels are compatible across the current wheel base range, you can upgrade to a higher-torque MOZA base later while continuing to use your compatible MOZA steering wheel. You should also check that your cockpit and mounting solution are suitable if you’re moving to a significantly higher-torque wheel base.
