Simucube 3 Direct Drive Wheelbases
The Simucube 3 wheelbase range is designed for premium direct drive sim racing, with Sport, Pro and Ultimate models providing three distinct levels of performance.
All three models use a 23-bit absolute angle sensor, include the Simucube Control Box and support front and bottom mounting. The differences become more significant when comparing maximum torque, motor technology, physical size, power and the amount of force-feedback headroom available.
The right Simucube 3 isn’t necessarily the model with the highest torque. Your preferred steering forces, cockpit rigidity, steering wheel choice and budget should all influence whether the Sport, Pro or Ultimate is the best fit.
Compare Simucube 3 Wheelbases
| Wheelbase | Max Torque | Motor | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simucube 3 Sport | 15Nm | Direct drive optimised SPM | Premium direct drive with strong all-round performance |
| Simucube 3 Pro | 25Nm | High-response direct drive optimised SPM | High-performance simulators and substantial torque headroom |
| Simucube 3 Ultimate | 35Nm | Maximum-response direct drive optimised IPM | Flagship simulator builds and maximum Simucube 3 performance |
Which Simucube 3 Wheelbase Should I Buy?
The Simucube 3 Sport 15Nm is the entry point into the Simucube 3 wheelbase range, but its performance places it well beyond what would normally be considered an entry-level direct drive system. For many drivers, 15Nm provides more than enough usable force while retaining substantial torque headroom.
The Simucube 3 Pro 25Nm is the step up for drivers building a high-performance simulator and wanting considerably greater torque capability. It provides an additional 10Nm over the Sport and uses a higher-response SPM motor.
At the top of the range, the Simucube 3 Ultimate 35Nm uses a different direct drive optimised IPM motor and provides the highest torque and maximum response capability in the Simucube 3 range.
Simucube 3 Sport vs Simucube 3 Pro
The biggest difference between the Simucube 3 Sport and Simucube 3 Pro is available torque: 15Nm versus 25Nm.
The Sport already offers substantial direct drive performance and is likely to provide enough steering force for many sim racers. The Pro provides another 10Nm of available torque together with its high-response SPM motor.
Choose the Sport if you want premium Simucube direct drive performance but don’t expect to need extremely high steering forces.
Consider the Pro if you’re building a higher-end simulator, prefer stronger force feedback, use larger or heavier steering wheels or simply want substantially greater performance headroom.
Simucube 3 Pro vs Simucube 3 Ultimate
The Simucube 3 Pro provides 25Nm, while the flagship Simucube 3 Ultimate increases maximum torque to 35Nm.
Torque isn’t the only distinction. The Ultimate uses Simucube’s direct drive optimised IPM motor, while the Pro uses a high-response SPM motor.
For most high-performance home simulators, the Pro already provides considerable torque capability. The Ultimate is aimed at drivers who specifically want the highest-performance wheelbase in the Simucube 3 range and are prepared to invest significantly more to obtain it.
Is 15Nm Enough for Sim Racing?
For many drivers, 15Nm is more than enough for serious sim racing.
The Simucube 3 Sport sits at the bottom of the Simucube 3 range only in comparison with the 25Nm Pro and 35Nm Ultimate. A 15Nm direct drive wheelbase is already capable of generating substantial steering force.
Higher torque gives you additional headroom, but it doesn’t mean you have to use the wheelbase at its maximum output. If you normally prefer moderate steering forces, the Sport may provide all the performance you need.
Is 25Nm Enough for High-End Sim Racing?
The 25Nm Simucube 3 Pro provides substantial torque headroom for a high-end simulator.
Even drivers who don’t intend to use the full 25Nm can benefit from having additional capacity available while configuring the wheelbase to the level of steering force they prefer.
For this reason, the Pro is likely to be the natural choice for many customers building a premium Simucube system who want significantly more headroom than the Sport without moving to the flagship Ultimate.
Who Needs a 35Nm Simucube Wheelbase?
Very few sim racers need to drive continuously at 35Nm.
The Simucube 3 Ultimate is better understood as the flagship wheelbase for drivers who want the highest level of performance available from the current Simucube 3 range rather than simply the heaviest possible steering.
Its 35Nm capability provides a very large operating range, while its IPM motor distinguishes it technically from the Sport and Pro.
For most drivers, the choice between Pro and Ultimate should therefore be based on the level of simulator being built and the desire for flagship hardware rather than maximum torque alone.

What Is the Simucube Link Hub?
The Simucube Link Hub connects Simucube 3 and other compatible Simucube Link devices to your PC and forms the communication backbone of the current Simucube hardware platform.
A Simucube 3 wheelbase requires a Simucube Link Hub to operate.
Importantly, you only need one Link Hub for your Simucube system. If you already own a Link Hub through compatible Simucube hardware, you don’t need to purchase another one specifically for the wheelbase.
If you’re buying your first Simucube 3 product and don’t already own a Link Hub, make sure one is included or added to your order.
Do I Need an Ethernet Switch with Simucube 3?
Not necessarily.
A single Simucube 3 wheelbase can connect through the required Simucube Link Hub. If you’re connecting multiple Simucube Link devices, such as a Simucube 3 wheelbase together with Simucube ActivePedals, an Ethernet switch is required to connect those devices through the same Link Hub.
You still only need one Simucube Link Hub.
What Is the Simucube Link Quick Release?
Simucube 3 uses the Simucube Link Quick Release to mechanically connect compatible steering wheels to the wheelbase.
The system incorporates Simucube LightBridge technology for contactless power and data transfer with compatible Simucube Link steering wheels.
The Link Quick Release is separate from the Link Hub, and the standard Simucube 3 wheelbase package does not include the Link Quick Release unless specifically stated in the product or bundle configuration.
Can I Use Simucube 2 Steering Wheels with Simucube 3?
Yes. Existing Simucube Wireless Wheels can be used with Simucube 3.
You will need the appropriate Simucube Link Quick Release for the mechanical connection, while Simucube Link handles compatible wireless wheel data.
Some steering wheels may also require an appropriate bolt-pattern adapter, so check the individual wheel configuration before ordering.
Can I Use a USB Steering Wheel with Simucube 3?
Yes. USB steering wheels can be used with Simucube 3.
The steering wheel connects to the PC as a normal USB device, while the appropriate Simucube Link Quick Release provides the mechanical connection to the wheelbase.
This means Simucube 3 isn’t restricted to steering wheels that communicate electronically through Simucube Link.
Which Simucube 3 Is Best for GT Racing?
All three Simucube 3 wheelbases are suitable for GT racing.
The Sport’s 15Nm output already provides substantial performance for most GT setups. The Pro offers considerably greater headroom and may be preferable if you use larger GT steering wheels or prefer stronger steering forces.
The Ultimate is the flagship option for drivers building a no-compromise Simucube simulator.
Which Simucube 3 Is Best for Formula Racing?
The Simucube 3 Sport, Pro and Ultimate can all be used for Formula sim racing.
Formula steering wheels are typically relatively compact, meaning the 15Nm Sport can already produce very strong steering forces.
The Pro and Ultimate provide progressively greater torque headroom for drivers who prefer higher forces or are building a simulator around higher-end hardware.
Do I Need a Strong Cockpit for Simucube 3?
Yes. A rigid sim racing cockpit is strongly recommended for Simucube 3.
Even the Sport provides 15Nm, while the Pro and Ultimate increase maximum torque to 25Nm and 35Nm respectively.
A cockpit or wheel mounting structure that flexes under load can reduce the benefit of a high-performance direct drive wheelbase and affect how clearly force feedback reaches the driver.
This becomes particularly important with the Pro and Ultimate.
Can Simucube 3 Be Front Mounted?
Yes. All three current Simucube 3 wheelbases support front and bottom mounting.
This gives you flexibility when integrating the wheelbase into a compatible aluminium profile cockpit or other suitably rigid simulator chassis.
Always check that your chosen cockpit or wheel mounting bracket supports the mounting configuration required for your Simucube 3 model.
Does Simucube 3 Work on PlayStation or Xbox?
No. The current Simucube hardware platform is designed for PC sim racing and does not provide official PlayStation or Xbox compatibility.
If you require PS5 or Xbox compatibility, choose a wheelbase ecosystem with official support for the console you intend to use.
Simucube 3 vs Other Direct Drive Wheelbases
Simucube 3 sits firmly within the premium end of the direct drive wheelbase market.
The 15Nm Sport competes with other higher-performance enthusiast wheelbases, while the 25Nm Pro and 35Nm Ultimate provide substantially greater torque capability for premium and flagship simulator installations.
When comparing Simucube with alternatives from SIMAGIC, MOZA or other direct drive manufacturers, don’t compare torque alone. Consider the complete ecosystem, steering wheel compatibility, software, mounting, required accessories and the type of simulator you’re building.
Complete Your Simucube Setup
A Simucube 3 wheelbase can form the foundation of a complete high-end simulator.
Choose a compatible steering wheel and quick-release configuration, add your preferred pedal system and combine the hardware with a suitably rigid cockpit.
The Simucube ecosystem can also be expanded with products such as Simucube ActivePedals, allowing multiple compatible devices to operate as part of the same Simucube Link system.
